Impact of microplastics restriction (No. 78) on epoxy-based products

"

Polymer particles smaller than 5 mm are classified as synthetic polymer microparticles (SPM), or “microplastics.”

If intentionally added or produced, they may fall under REACH Annex XVII Restriction 78. Many solid epoxy resins, waterborne resins, and solid hardeners meet this definition.

While Restriction 78 bans intentional use of microplastics, derogations apply to certain epoxy products, subject to reporting and information requirements for manufacturers and downstream users.
